Member Monday: Jacob Barrineau, CFO & Co-Founder
Milestones/Accomplishments: Jacob has reached several notable milestones in his early career. He’s won multiple business plan competitions, attended the Honors College at the University of South Florida, was recognized as a Scholar in the 2019 Frank and Ellen Daveler Entrepreneurship Program, and is currently leading the Tampa-based Limitless Church as a student director.
Favorite Influential Person: Jacob idolizes David from the Bible. The stories of his humility and bravery in the face of adversity, no matter how disadvantaged the situation, are stories that Jacob finds inspiring. He especially admires his humility in action after he was told that he was the rightful king.
Favorite Company: Jacob’s favorite company is Chris Craft Boats. They are renowned for their excellent quality boats for over 100 years. Any company that survives for a century through market shifts, has an incredibly strong foundation - one that Jacob experienced firsthand. Jacob interned there in the summer of 2017 and was given a fantastic opportunity to refine his accounting skills.
Vision: Jacob aspires to venture into new endeavors and do something that has never been done before. His passion stems from a deep foundation of thinking outside the box. He says, “Being young, we are fortunate enough to be able to take risks, make mistakes, fail, and rebound stronger.”
Biggest Struggle: The biggest founding struggle for Jacob: Figuring out how to run business meetings. At first, the RDM team went into meetings amongst themselves and with mentors, without having a clear objective. The intentionality in conversation behind 30 minute meetings, in which many topics needed to be covered while respecting everyone’s time, was underestimated - simply because the team had never done it before. When asked about how he started to process of improving RDM’s efficiency in meetings, he said, “It’s almost like opening a book in a foreign language and having to decipher it. “
2020 Goal: Jacob has a personal goal of graduating from the University of South Florida with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. His business goal includes refining his accounting skills in order to become more proficient as RDM continues to grow the amount of projects and partnerships it is able to take on at one time.
End Goal: In the long run, Jacob wants to live a life that he doesn’t regret. More specifically, Jacob wants to be able to say, “If I had to do it all over again, I’d do it the exact same way. Sure, mistakes were made along the way, but the intentionality behind my actions was pure, and I became the man that I envisioned myself to be.”
